Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm Wedding - Courtney and Sam

Courtney and Sam were married in 2017 (I know, I’m the worst and a quite a bit late getting this up) on one of the best September days at Spencer-Peirce-Little farm in Newbury, MA.

We started in Newburyport at Airbnb’s and made our way over to the farm for their first look, followed by some portraits. During the reception, we created a few more portraits during the final minutes of sunlight, which are some of my favorites to date.

Also, this was one of the first times I used a Leica M10 to document a wedding.

(All images taken on a Leica M10, Fuji X-Pro2, Leica M-P, and Mamiya 645afdiii. Film used is Portra 400)

Why I Shoot Film

I truly became invested, and educated, in photography at the age of 14 in my high school photo class. I borrowed my grandma's camera, a Canon AE-1 Program (which I still have today) and learned the basics of how to use a camera, I also learned darkroom techniques that I still apply to this day.

The methodology of film is that it is slower. It's meditative and ritualistic, almost zen like. Everything has to be perfect before the shutter is clicked because you only get one chance with it. Plus there's the waiting for the film to come back and scan day is basically Christmas morning, every time.

The scans of the negatives have colors, sharpness (yet still a softness that is perfect for portraits) and a dynamic range that digital can never match and I love the photos that are created more than anything. Nothing makes me happier than my Leica M6 (except maybe ice cream), which is my absolute favorite camera that I own.

Incorporating film into weddings has been the best decision that I have made and I hope to continue to do so as time goes on.

Most of the photos below were taken with a Mamiya 645 adfdiii, Pentax 6x7, and Leica M6ttl, on a mix of Kodak film (Kodak Portra 160, 400 and 800 and Kodak Tri-X). Most have been scanned by The FIND Lab, who are amazing at what they do
